The Laureus Foundation Switzerland was named the official charity partner of the Young Boys Football Club in Bern, Switzerland today. This is the first time in the history of Swiss sports that a football club and charity has embarked on such a partnership.
From next season onwards, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation Switzerland logo will be worn on the Young Boys kit.
Also announced by Ottmar Hitzfeld is that Stéphane Chapuisat is to become a Laureus Ambassador.
Alain Kappeler, COO of BSC Young Boys, explains the partnership as follows: "We want to lead the way by example as a football club and are delighted to strengthen our social commitment."
While Evelyn Fankhauser, Executive Director of the Laureus Foundation Switzerland said: "We are very pleased to partner with YB and are confident that our project Laureus street soccer can benefit from the expertise of the Young Boys. Joint activities in the region also help us to manifest the importance of social responsibility in our society.”
Stéphane Chapuisat will join Ottmar Hitzfeld, who is also a Laureus Ambassador, as patrons of the Laureus Street Soccer project in Switzerland.
"As a former football player and new Laureus Ambassador is the project very dear to me. On the pitch it does not matter where you come from. And exactly that is lived at Laureus street soccer. The young people learn cohesion, fair play and respect, " said Stéphane Chapuisat.
