SESLA: Participatory Video Voice Research and Most Significant Change

Sport for Education and Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (SESLA) is an initiative in response to the fact that one in four young people in Africa – around 72 million – are not in formal education, employment or training.
Launched in 2024 by Laureus Sport for Good, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and with the support of key African sport and social development institutions, SESLA leverages sport to empower young people in Africa to create more sustainable futures for themselves and their communities

Participatory Video and Most Significant Change methodology was applied in eight SESLA-funded organisations to evaluate the programme’s impact:
- Deaf Outreach (Kenya)
- Génération Sports X-trèmes (Tunisia)
- I Am Water (South Africa)
- Malaika (Democratic Republic of Congo)
- MindLeaps (Rwanda)
- Organisation pour le Développement Durable et la Biodiversité (Benin)
- Tackle (Uganda)
- United Africa (Morocco)
Facilitated by SESLA delivery partner InsightShare, this approach allowed participants take control of their narratives and share how sport has transformed their lives. Through this method, their lived experiences were captured in ways that traditional surveys and questionnaires often cannot.
