Germany became the first nation to win both a men’s and women’s World Cup after victory in the 2003 Women’s World Cup in the United States. Tina Theune-Meyer also became the first woman to coach a team in the World Cup.
The German women’s team matched the exploits of their men’s team with a tremendous World Cup victory of skill and character, producing a thrilling climax with a golden goal winner in the final against Sweden.
