Laureus World Sports Academy Chairman Edwin Moses has praised the sportsmanship of Laureus Ambassador Nico Rosberg, following the final race of the Formula One season in Abu Dhabi.
“Although he lost in the end, I was delighted to see Nico showing the spirit of true sportsmanship, congratulating Lewis Hamilton warmly on his victory,” said Moses.
“His car was struggling with a problem, but I was very impressed to see that Nico wanted to continue right to the end and finish the race. He is a fighter and no doubt he will be even more determined to win in the future.
“Nico is a Laureus Ambassador and has done great work for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation over the last few years, welcoming under-privileged kids to several Grand Prix and showing them round his team.”
Hamilton won his 11th Grand Prix of the year in Abu Dhabi to clinch his second World Championship, ahead of Rosberg. Their Mercedes AMG Petronas team won the World Constructors’ Championship.
"He was that little bit better this year and it is fully deserved. He has done an amazing job and was the best driver on the grid this year." said Rosberg after the race. “It’s been a great battle between us and that is what I race for. It’s been very intense at times but most of the time it’s been fantastic.”
Edwin Moses added: “It was a thrilling season. They both have so much talent. Lewis is a phenomenal driver and winner of a Laureus Award back in 2008. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win more World Championships and I am sure he will get a lot of votes from the world’s media when it comes to choosing the Nominees for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year.”
