From Supercars to Social Change: Gumball 3000 helps Laureus reach top gear

How does Idris Elba cruising across Scandinavia in an Aston Martin DB9, or David Hasselhoff driving through Tokyo in a Nissan GTR (customised to look like his famous KITT car from Knight Rider), connect to Laureus Sport for Good programmes changing the lives of young people in Cambodia or Romania?

The answer is a unique motorsport phenomenon: Gumball 3000.
For one week each year, the Gumball 3000 Rally criss-crosses the globe in a technicolour parade of horsepower, celebrity, and spectacle. Founded in 1999 by British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper, the rally is a 3,000-mile celebration of automotive culture, fashion, music and philanthropy. And since 2019, it’s also been a powerful engine for change – thanks to its partnership with Laureus Sport for Good.

While Gumball attracts stars like Elba, Snoop Dogg, Lewis Hamilton, Tony Hawk, and Deadmau5, and features jaw-dropping supercars, behind the glamour lies a deeper mission: to support young people around the world through sport.

As the 2025 Gumball 3000 rally makes its way from Istanbul to Ibiza from September 20 – 27, it will be more than just a spectacle of automotive excellence; it will be a catalyst for social change, demonstrating how passion and purpose can come together to make a difference in the lives of young people.
Since teaming up with Laureus Sport for Good in 2019, the Gumball 3000 Foundation has donated over €500,000 to support Laureus Sport for Good’s work across the globe. These grants have helped transform lives far from the red carpets and rally checkpoints.

In Cambodia, Gumball’s donation supported Laureus’ local partner the ISF Cambodia's work with underserved youth through football. In Romania, Basketball Leben received funding to enable their work with Laureus to empower young people through sport. In the USA, projects like Soccer in the Streets (Atlanta) and Skatepark LA (Los Angeles) have benefited from the Laureus and Gumball Foundation tie-up.

Each grant powers transformation – helping young people to find purpose, community and opportunity through sport. Those ideas may seem miles away from the Gumballers’ whirlwind adventures, but the rally’s global reach has fuelled grassroots change – whether it’s a floating football pitch in Thailand or a skatepark in LA.

As the rally continues to blaze a trail around the world, its legacy grows – not just in the memories of its participants, but in the futures of the young people it supports around the world, every day.
