Georgia Stanway joins Laureus as an Ambassador after Euro 2025 triumph

Georgia Stanway, one of the stars of England’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2025-winning team, has been announced as a Laureus Ambassador, joining a global movement that uses the power of sport to change lives.
The announcement was made during Stanway’s visit to Street League, a Laureus-supported programme that uses sport and education to tackle poverty and help young people into training and employment. Every coach and participant at the session in London was all-female, reflecting Stanway’s personal commitment to increasing opportunities for girls in sport.
Street League was nominated for the Laureus Sport for Good Award at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards, recognising its impact in communities across the UK.

Stanway’s 2025 began with a knee injury which ended her Bundesliga season and threatened her participation at the Euros.
During her layoff, Stanway engaged with Laureus, first visiting Futbalo Girls in Munich, a programme that supports girls from refugee and migrant backgrounds through football. She also attended the ICON conference in Portugal, where she shared a platform with fellow Laureus Ambassador and international football star Kosovare Asllani, discussing the importance of representation and leadership in women’s sport.
As she watched from the sidelines as Bayern Munich completed a league and cup double, Stanway was facing a race against time to be fit for the Euros, but she defied the odds to start every game for the Lionesses, playing a decisive role as England retained their title.
Ahead of Bayern’s Frauen-Bundesliga opener against Leverkusen on Saturday (September 6), Stanway spoke of the synergy between the work of Laureus and her personal ambition to use her platform to increase opportunities in sport for girls.

Georgia Stanway, Laureus Ambassador: “I’ve always believed in the power of sport to change lives, especially for girls and boys who might not see a clear path forward in sport as they get older. Laureus shares that belief, and I’m proud to stand alongside them as part of a movement that includes athletes from across sport, and from different generations.
“Becoming a Laureus Ambassador feels like a natural step for me. I’ve seen first-hand the impact Laureus Sport for Good programmes have and today’s session was incredibly powerful. Seeing a group of young women, supported by female coaches, building confidence and skills through football - those are the opportunities I want to help create more of.
“After the challenges of this year – the injury, the recovery, the fight to be ready for the Euros – I’ve never been more motivated to help open doors for the next generation.”
Jessica Ennis-Hill, Laureus Academy Member: “Georgia’s journey this year has been nothing short of inspirational. To come back from injury and play such a key role in England’s Euro win shows incredible resilience and determination. On behalf of the Laureus Academy, I’m delighted to welcome her as an Ambassador. Her passion for supporting girls in sport and her commitment to using her platform for good make her a perfect fit for Laureus.
