Nine of Hong Kong’s greatest athletes have joined the Laureus family and have committed to supporting the work of Laureus Sport for Good.
Laureus Academy Member and Chinese gymnastic icon Li Xiaopeng was joined in Hong Kong by Laureus Ambassadors Victoria Pendleton (the Olympic track cycling legend) and adventurer Annabelle Bond to induct the nine new Hong Kong athletes as Laureus’ first Hong Kong Ambassadors.

Laureus Academy Member Li Xiaopeng: It’s so exciting to be here today to welcome our first Ambassadors from Hong Kong to the Laureus Family. To have nine of the territory’s greatest athletes on board as we build our programming in Hong Kong and across Asia is so powerful. Speaking to our new Ambassadors, they are all committed to supporting the work of Laureus Sport for Good in Hong Kong and they’re looking forward to getting started.”
Also joining the Laureus family as Ambassadors are former world champion windsurfer Lee Lai Shan, world champion cyclist Wong Kam Po, badminton star Amy Chan Lim Chee, triathlete Daniel Lee Chi Wo, athlete Malina Ngai Man Lin, swimming stars Alex Fong Lik Sun, Sherry Tsai Hiu Wai and Vivian Lee Ying Shih and fencer Ron Lee Chung Man. Laureus has a longstanding relationship with the athletes through their work with the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association. The athletes have all reached the highest level in their sport, and they are committing to support the Laureus movement because of their belief in the role sport can play in improving the lives of young people.
The induction of these new Ambassadors will continue to strengthen the relationship between Laureus and Hong Kong.  Laureus Sport for Good already supports a number of programme partners in the territory, including InspiringHK and Deaf Rugby, both of which use sport to improve the lives of young people in Hong Kong.
On a global level, Laureus Sport for Good supports more than 150 programmes in over 40 countries around the world, using the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage. Each programme uses sport to address at least one of the following six social issues, which are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Health; Education; Women and Girls; Employability; Inclusive Society and Peaceful Society.
Laureus Ambassador Victoria Pendleton: “These incredible athletes have reached the highest levels in their sport and they all believe in the power sport can have to improve lives at the grassroots level. Hong Kong and Asia are key regions for Laureus and it’s great to be here to welcome our new Ambassadors to Laureus and visit our new Sport for Good programmes. Working with our new Ambassadors, we are looking forward to using sport to help young people overcome violence, discrimination and disadvantage.
