Sean Fitzpatrick, Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy, has expressed his sadness over the death of Leicester City Chairman and Laureus Ambassador Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in a tragic helicopter crash at the weekend.
“Vichai was one of those rare people in life who gave every step of the way. He was a successful businessman, but for him life was about so much more. He adored sport and wanted to be involved at so many levels. He turned Leicester City into the most unexpected and popular champions of the English Premier League for years, and at the other end of the spectrum he also loved polo.
“He was a keen supporter of the Laureus Polo Cup which raises money each summer for underprivileged children. It was an honour for us to have him as a Laureus Ambassador and I know how delighted he was when the Laureus Academy gave Leicester the Laureus Spirit of Sport Award. It’s a tragedy his life ended like it did, but we will never forget him and the impact he made in sport, and of course what he did for Laureus.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of all those who lost their lives.”
