The legendary Australian golfer came close to winning the British Open Championship - at the age of 53.  Still on his honeymoon with tennis great Chris Evert, and only a part-time golfer with no expectations, he found himself with a two-shot lead going into the final round at Birkdale in July, despite not playing in a major championship for three years.
He eventually finished in a tie for third behind winner Padraig Harrington.  His feat earned him the record of becoming the oldest 54-hole leader in a major championship.  In the following two weeks, Norman finished fifth in the British Senior Open Championship and fourth in the US Senior Open.
