The world’s fastest female amputee, she won the 100 metres T44 gold medal in the Beijing Paralympic Games and is the current world record holder at 100, 200 and 400 metres. An all-star high school and college athlete, she lost her left leg below the knee after she was involved in a train accident in 2001.
While she lay in her hospital bed, a doctor told her about the Paralympic Games and a new goal was firmly implanted in her mind. With the use of a carbon fibre prosthetic limb, she became an outstanding Paralympic athlete. Off the track, she runs the April Holmes Foundation, which assists people with physical and developmental disabilities in every day life.
