Fiji routed Great Britain 43-7 in the final of the Olympic Rugby Sevens to secure the first gold medal the South Pacific nation has ever won in any sport. Although from a tiny country, captain Osea Kolinisau and his Fiji team-mates have been the dominant force in Sevens rugby for several years and were favourites. Fiji is made up of 300 islands with a population of 800,000 and the win gave enormous joy to the country which suffered a serious cyclone earlier this year which took 44 lives.
