After a highly successful Tokyo Olympics, the pole vault star followed up in 2022 with victories in the World Outdoor and Indoor Championships, the Diamond League and the European Championship. During the year he improved his world record to 6.20 metres indoors, then 6.21 metres outdoors and was named Male Athlete of the Year by World Athletics. Currently he has cleared six metres or higher 54 times, the most of any athlete in history.
