The rise and rise of Tiger Woods continued in 1999, as he became the world's top ranked golfer, picked up the PGA Championship and became PGA Player of the Year for the second time.
His dominance in the sport was considered by the Academy as the stand-out performance in this category and worthy of the first ever Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year.
