The highlight of an excellent 2021 for Barty was winning Wimbledon, her second career Grand Slam. The 25-year-old became the first Indigenous Australian woman to win Wimbledon since Evonne Goolagong Cawley 50 years earlier. She has been ranked world No.1 in singles for all but four weeks since June 2019, and is the first Australian and Indigenous player since Cawley to reach that ranking.
She also won a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the Tokyo Olympics and won the Yarra Valley Classic, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open and Cincinnati Open. She is the National Indigenous Ambassador for Tennis Australia, taking on the role of promoting the sport in Indigenous communities and encouraging more diverse participation.
