Ended their 28-year wait to win the Copa America again with a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the final at the Maracana Stadium. It was a personal triumph for Lionel Messi who won his first ever international trophy, at the age of 34. He had never won an international title with Argentina in ten major tournaments. He had been runner-up three times in the Copa America, as well as in the 2014 World Cup. He scored four goals, had nine assists and 21 chances created, and was named Player of the Tournament. He won his record seventh Ballon d’Or in November.
