Inspired by tournament MVP Dennis Schröder of the Toronto Raptors and led by coach Gordon Herbert, Germany won the FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time, beating Serbia 83-77 in the final. Their previous best was a bronze medal in 2002. The highlight for the Germans and their enthusiastic fans was the 113-111 win over the United States in the semi-finals, and there are now hopes that they can carry this form through to the Paris Olympics. Against Serbia, Schroder scored 28 points and Franz Wagner added 19 as Germany capped off an unbeaten 8-0 run through the World Cup.
