Founded in 1997, Figure Skating in Harlem helps girls transform their lives and grow in confidence, leadership and academic achievement. Over 1,500 girls have passed through the programme, as it has grown into an anchor institution within its community, gaining recognition from the International Olympic Committee and global media coverage for the impact it has had.
At Figure Skating in Harlem, physical fitness and skating technique are developed alongside an educational curriculum that improves reading, writing, and mathematics, introduces financial literacy and STEM concepts, promotes positive social and emotional skills and encourages good health and nutrition.
Today Figure Skating in Harlem is one of 62 member organisations within Sport for Good New York City, part of the Laureus Sport for Good Cities initiative.
