The 2025 Giro d’Italia marked seven years since Yates’ collapse at Colle delle Finestre when, with 87km to go, he lost the lead to Chris Froome. In June, Yates cast aside his demons with a dominant performance to win the race, including a solo attack on the same slope that had ended his hopes in 2018. Yates ended the Giro nearly four minutes ahead of Isaac del Toro, gaining over five minutes during the Giro’s penultimate stage.
