Andrew

Strauss

After making his test debut for England in 2004, Andrew Strauss became the only English batsman to score two centuries in an Ashes victory over Australia in 2005, and was named as Wisden Cricketer of the Year as a result. In 2009, he was appointed as captain of the England team, and proceeded to join a select group of three players who have won the Ashes both at home and away. Under his stewardship, England were ranked the top Test team in the world.

After his retirement from cricket in 2012 he returned to the sport in a new role as Director of Cricket at The England and Wales Cricket Board in 2015. Strauss was an essential part of the winning side at the ICC World Cup at Lord’s in 2019, showing his capabilities both on and off the pitch. Strauss was awarded an MBE in 2005, followed by an OBE in 2011 and in 2019 he became Sir Andrew Strauss when he was knighted for his services to charity, sport and cricket.
