Under coach Sarina Wiegman, England’s Lionesses successfully defended their Women’s Euro title, triumphing in a penalty shootout in the final against Spain. Despite a 2-1 loss to France in their first group stage game, England fired four past the Netherlands and six past Wales to claim second in the group. In the knockout stage, 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang scored a late equaliser to see England past Sweden on penalties. Agyemang and Chloe Kelly scored late to win the semi-final against Italy, before goalkeeper Hannah Hampton’s penalty heroics in the final sealed England’s second consecutive title.
