Highlights

Despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, sport continued – and so did Laureus, adopting a ‘virtual’ format for the 2021 Awards.

Actress Paz Vega hosted a unique show from her home town, Sevilla, in Spain.  The Awards celebrated more than sporting performances on the pitch, court and track; they also celebrated the athletes who took a stand for what’s right and used their platform to make a difference. The inaugural Laureus Athlete Advocate Award was presented to Formula One record breaker and social campaigner Lewis Hamilton. Other athletes were recognised for their sporting achievement and their campaigning, including tennis great Naomi Osaka, Superbowl winner Patrick Mahomes and living legend Billie Jean King among the recipients of a prestigious Laureus statuette.
